Unfortunately, hardware scan didn't detect it again and all attempt to reinstall 'plug and play software device enumerator' failed. There was a method to reinstall this in XP by modifying the machine.inf file but it too didn't reinstall the device. If the PNP software device enumerator is not installed yet...
Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add New Hardware, Click 'Next' twice. Select 'No, the device isn't in the list' and then click 'Next' Select 'No, I want to select hardware from a list' and then click 'Next' Double-click on 'System Devices' Select 'Microsoft' at the left side of the panel. Double-click on 'Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator' at the right side of the panel. You should find it under your Device Manager, under System. It is a System Device. Hope this helps a little bit. Dave
